  • Meowstic ( Olympia's one male and one female).
  • Charizard ( Alain's Mega Charizard X) ( XY071- XY093).
  • Goodra ( Ash's) ( XY055- XY070 silhouette).
  • Saikou Everyday - I just bloody love this song.
  • It speaks of a little hype-building and a lot of fun filler.
  • Getta Banban - as far as I'm concerned this is the perfect mid-series OP.
  • Genuinely gives me a boost if played during a run or before a job interview/similar.
  • Spurt - possibly the hype-iest song I've ever heard.
  • Original MPM - original, irreplaceable and best.
  • Japanese is very difficult because the only songs that don't deserve to exist are MPM Whiteberry and Symphonic Medley, but these are IMO the God-tier OPs:
  • Unbeatable - wooaaaaah ooooooh oh oh ohhh oh! The slightly more mature but still upbeat cousin to Johto Journeys.
  • Johto Journeys - do do do do doooo doo, do do do do doooooooo do! Catchiest, funnest, most energising theme song in English.
  • I doubt there's a person in my generation who can hear that clarion call and not start singing along.
  • Pokemon Theme - impossible for me to separate from nostalgia, but, I mean, it's a true classic.
  • (There seems to be a bit of a bias towards theme songs I've actually properly watched in real-time, hence English songs up till DP and Japanese one from DP-now.)Įnglish first, because it's easier to narrow down: My criteria is going to be 'which openings did I actively look forward to watching', because there is stuff like Together (which I now love unconditionally because Sinnoh feelz) that I used to roll my eyes for every time.
  • "Battle Cry (Stand Up!)" - okay, so the lyrics barely have anything to do with the show, but they're still really good.
  • Of all the shows I watched as a kid, Pokémon Diamond & Pearl is the one I remember the clearest.
  • "We Will Be Heroes" - this is more nostalgia than anything, since I remembered the entire lyrics for years, and I couldn't decide if I liked the DP Rap or not.
  • Hilariously, you can imagine that "they can never win, but they sure can try!" and "you think you can win but you always loose!" apply to Ash.
  • "Unbeatable" - not much to say other than that it's a high-energy song with lyrics that aren't repetitive and actually have something to do with the show.
  • This song has always sounded so "Sinnoh" to me, and I just realised it's because the beginning of the 2008 version sounds like the opening theme of the corresponding games.
  • "Together" - it's not so much the lyrics (apart from the bridge, which is a concise summary of the anime set to some nice scenes of Pokémon in their natural habitats) as much as the instruments.
  • It's not as warmfeelsy as "Soko ni Sora ga Aru Kara" or "Smile", but those are endings. nice seeing these characters being friends. (Also, funny how Pikachu and Eevee are next to each other in that segment.) It's just. Early noughties anime gives me this je ne sais quoi which I can best describe as "warmfeels", and the scene with all of the characters around the campfire is one of them.
  • "Battle Frontier" - this is high-energy, but also bittersweet, specifically the montage of departed characters and May crying.
